STREAMING – In the Beginning
In the Beginning, now streaming for free!
This past November we co-produced, with Vancouver Moving Theatre, as part of the Heart of the City Festival, a series of cultural sharing discussions entitled, In the Beginning. Storyteller Rosemary Georgeson (Coast Salish/Dene), Firehall Arts Centre Artistic Producer Donna Spencer, and moderator Kim Haxton (Potowatomi), were joined by Indigenous elders, knowledge keepers, and artists from the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil- Waututh nations, among others. Together, in what has been described as an ‘Indigenous TedTalk’ the history of the East Side and in particular the Strathcona, Chinatown, Gastown, and Paueru Gai/Powell Street neighborhoods were explored throughout the course of five unique discussions.
Acknowledging the importance of the cultural dialogue and history that would be shared during In the Beginnings informative discussions, each event was filmed so the knowledge generated could be shared with wider audiences.
Please enjoy and share these recordings for free! There are five “episodes” covering different regions and hosting different guests. The videos will be available from Monday, April 12th to Sunday, April 18th.
Night 1 ‘Over the Mountains’
Night 2 ‘From the Waters’
Night 3 ‘People of the River Grass’
Night 4 ‘Tsleil-Waututh’
Night 5 ‘ Squamish’
