Weaving storytelling, music and dance and featuring actors from Canada and South Africa, Ubuntu tells the tale of two people, separated by oceans, who are brought together by ghosts to discover the secrets of their pasts.

The story of a Jewish-Canadian writer, the descendant of Holocaust survivors, who after a heartbreak, goes on a journey to uncover his past. By chance, he meets a woman who has lived through a much more recent genocide. Together they explore individual responsibility, prejudice and revenge as the stage fills with music from around the world- from Ukraine to Croatia to Zimbabwe.

The Battle of Vimy Ridge was a turning point in Canadian self-determination. In this play by Governor General’s Award-winning playwright Vern Thiessen, a nurse looks over four young soldiers as they recover from the battle in a military hospital in France. All five are drawn into the past as memories of their time on and off the front occupy their thoughts. Thiessen creates characters with extreme depth and feeling in this exploration of friendship, responsibility and nationalism.
